What type of accommodation do you offer at your schools?

Our London school offers:

• Homestay with a local family
• Single or twin rooms in an independent student house
• Single or twin rooms in student residences.

Our Hastings school offers homestay accommodation throughout the year and student residence during the summer.

If I book accommodation at Shane Global, do I have to book accommodation for the whole course?

No, many students who study long courses book accommodation only for the first few weeks/months. After that period students may ask us to extend their stay or find them alternative accommodation. Many students have made good friends by then and decide to share a privately rented house with other students.

I only want to study for 1 week. Can I book a residence?

NO. Residences only accept bookings for a minimum of 2 weeks. For 1 week courses, we can place you with a homestay or in a student house (London only)

Is there internet access in residences?

Most residences offer an internet service, either plug in or wireless. Each residence will have a different charge for this service and students must arrange this directly with residence staff.

Can I walk to school from my residence?

Although most residences are in zone 1, London is a huge city and students will still need to use public transport to travel to school. Residences are situated on good bus/tube routes.

How far away from the school will my homestay be?

Families do not leave near the school. Our host families are situated on bus, tube or train routes and the journey to school will take as long as 30 minutes in Hastings and 1 hour in London, depending on traffic etc. Please do not expect to be able to walk to school!

Will I have internet access in my homestay?

This is not something our host families are required to provide. Sometimes they have internet access and sometimes they don’t. We cannot guarantee a homestay with internet. All students have free internet access at the school.

I only eat Halal food. Will this be provided at my homestay?

Hastings is a small town with a very small Muslim population. London is a very large city with a large Muslim population. If you have special dietary needs such as halal or other, we recommend that you choose self catering homestay, or that you enrol at London school where it is much easier to place with an appropriate family.If you have allergies, we will try our best to place you in an appropriate homestay but we cannot always comply with all requests - it depends on the time of year and the families available.

Can I start my course in the middle of the week?

NO. All students must start on a Monday. If you arrive in the middle of the week, you cannot start your course until the next Monday . All homestays are organised weekend to weekend. This rule is absolute for Hastings school. We cannot be flexible. In London, it is easier to arrange arrival or departure during the week if you cannot arrive at the weekend for legitimate reasons. However, we cannot guarantee this. Please contact the London school directly for more details.

Will there be pets in my homestay?

British people love animals. Most families have a pet or several pets and they ALL live in the house. This is part of British culture and students need to be aware of this. Pets are domesticated and friendly and there is no need to be afraid of them. They are normally treated like another member of the family. We do understand that other nationalities are not so enthusiastic about cats and dogs! Please tell us when you apply for a course if you do not want to be placed with pets.

Will there be children in my homestay?

We cannot guarantee this. Many families are one parent families with children. Many families are older parents whose children have left home. Generally, if you book self catering or breakfast only, you will be placed with a single person in a homestay, rather than a family. If you really do not want to be placed with children or pets, we recommend you book a residence or student house.

Can I book a shared room in a homestay if I travel alone?

TAP students will often share a room. For adult students travelling alone, you cannot book a twin room as a cheaper option. You can only book a twin room if you are travelling and studying with a friend.

Will I be placed with a white family?

Britain is very multicultural. A very large number of British people are not white. For a homestay you will be placed with a British family. A British family can be from any background, any religion, have any colour of skin, and cook many different types of food. Many people work at weekends. Many people do not go to church. This is NORMAL in Britain and something that students need to be aware of.

If I am unhappy with my accommodation provided by Shane Global, what do I do?

Sometimes it takes time to become accustomed to the different way of life in England and living with a host family can seem strange at first. If, at the end of you first week, when you have settled at school, you are uncomfortable with you accommodation, speak to Student Services staff. They will advise you. If it is necessary to move you to alternative accommodation, they will arrange that for you.

If I decide to leave my accommodation provided by Shane Global so that I can live with friends, what do I have to do?

You must speak to Student Services staff. For homestay accommodation you need to give 1 weeks’ notice that you are moving out. If accommodation is cancelled after a student has arrived, one week’s notice must be given, or one week accommodation charge paid. If a student requests to change accommodation an additional accommodation finding fee may be charged. If a student decides to leave accommodation the school has arranged and wants money he or she has paid to the school refunded, this will be possible for those weeks remaining so long as at least one week’s notice is given.

PLEASE NOTE: AN EXECUTIVE HOMESTAY IS STILL A FAMILY HOME AND WILL BE DECORATED AND EQUIPPED AS SUCH. DO NOT EXPECT LUXURY. EXECUTIVE MEANS THAT THE HOME IS OF A HIGHER STANDARD WITH BETTER FACILITIES, IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT IS A MANSION OR THE EQUIVALENT OF A 5* HOTEL. IF YOU WANT REALLY EXECUTIVE ACCOMMODATION, YOU SHOULD BOOK A PRIVATE HOTEL. THERE ARE MANY HOTELS IN CENTRAL LONDON. CLARIDGES IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER FROM SCHOOL.
