| 1. Welcome | |
| Dear agent, Welcome to the July Shane Global newsletter. It has been a busy time for both you as agents and us as schools. We have been speaking with many of you throughout this period and the general mood is that of a positive feeling and enthusiasm for the coming months. As I am sure most of you would have already heard that there has been a change in the UK border agency law, which is a great success for English UK and its members. I hope you enjoy the rest of the newsletter. Shane Global Marketing |

| 2. English UK win high court battle over Tier 4 student visas | |
| The legal victory means Tier 4 applications by students with elementary English-language skills – level A2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages – should again be considered by the UK Border Agency (UKBA). Justice Foskett ruled that the changes were implemented by altering guideless rather than making formal changes through parliament, and he referred the matter back to parliament. The legal challenge was brought by English UK, representative of 440 schools and colleges. Counsel for English UK argued in court that the Home Office should have brought the issue back to Parliament for proper debate. Mr. Justice Foskett said the fresh restrictions had been achieved through altering guidelines when there should have been a formal change to the rules, with the matter referred back to Parliament. Mr. Millns said, “I am delighted and relieved. “We are pleased that Mr. Justice Foskett saw the merits of our case and we believe that his decision is good for the UK economy, to which the English language sector contributes about £1.5 billion in foreign earnings each year.” Ref: http://www.immigrationmatters.co.uk/english-uk-win-high-court-battle-over-student-visas.html http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/story.asp?storycode=412450 http://www.adviceforyou.org.uk/blog/uk-immigration-news-2010/english-uk-wins-high-court-judicial-review-case-on-english-language-courses-under-the-points-based-visa-system/ http://www.visabureau.com/uk/news/12-07-2010/uk-visa-rule-changes-for-english-students-quashed-in-high-court.aspx |

Pestalozzi: Next year we are going to be promoting a residential programme for juniors. The place is located in the Sussex countryside just outside of Hastings in a beautiful rural setting. The site is very secure so parents can have peace of mind. It will still have the morning tuition, some FANTASTIC afternoon activities, full board accommodation on site, evening activities most nights, a full day trip to London at the weekend, and two afternoon trips per week –one to Hastings and one to another place of interest. There will be a Shane global leader and representative on site at all times. An idea of the activities includes: wall climbing, zip wire, nature trails, and many more with campfires, and discos and BBQs in the evening. We would like your feedback so please click here if this sounds of interest to you and your students |
