Our English Courses - IntroductionLessonsIn all types of lessons, our teachers aim to meet the needs of the students in each particular class. Course books are supplemented to reflect the students' interests and to incorporate authentic, topical materials. Generally, the emphasis is upon oral communication, in response to student demand. Students have lots of opportunity in class to speak English, to work on the skills they will need outside of the classroom and to become more confident in their ability to interact in English. Students are also given ample opportunities to practise all other skills, grammatical structures and vocabulary. There is a maximum of 12 students in a class. Course MaterialsStudents must use a course book for the General English course. The cost of the first book is charged when the student enrols at the school. This £20 charge is shown clearly on the enrolment invoice. For long-term students, they can choose whether to buy their second course book from the school, get a second-hand copy from a leaving student or buy elsewhere. Placement TestThe schools use a standard placement test to place students into the appropriate level (number of levels may vary from school to school). Some visa students who need to prove their level of English for their Tier 4 Full Student Visa, can take our level placement test before arrival. We will mark the test and publish your English level on the Visa Letter sent to you with all the necessary enrolment documents. You will still have to take an oral test on your first day at school. Evaluation & FeedbackStudents are given a written progress test at regular intervals, based on the materials they have covered in class. In addition, all students are given a tutorial with their teacher to discuss their progress and their personal study goals. Long-term students also receive a written progress report, outlining the points covered in the tutorial. The written test and teacher evaluation form the basis upon which the student can change levels. Informal weekly tests in a variety of formats are given at the discretion of the teacher to consolidate and revise the week's work. In order to maintain the highest quality, we ask for student feedback in the following formats:
Course CertificatesAll students who successfully complete their course are awarded an official certificate indicating length and type of course. Students are also given a final written report from academic staff, if requested. Leaving CeremonyEvery Friday at 11:45am we have a leaving ceremony to present students with their certificate and say goodbye, give Social Programme information and any school notices. |
